Is the Fellowship paid/does it include a stipend?

What is service-learning?

Service-learning is an educational approach that combines learning objectives with community service in order to provide a pragmatic, progressive learning experience while meeting community needs.

What is Community-based participatory research (CBPR)?

CBPR is defined as a collaboration with community partners. It recognizes the unique strengths that the academic-community partnership brings to research. CBPR begins with a community determining a research project of importance to them with the aim of combining knowledge and action for social change to improve community health and eliminate health disparities.

How long is the Fellowship?

The Fellowship is a six-month-long project, with the opportunity to travel to Puerto Rico for one week of in-person data collection and participation. Upon returning, students will analyze and disseminate the data that was collected and report and reflect on the entire six-month experience.

Why is Inter-professional Education (IPE) important?

It helps prepare students to optimize their engagement with other professions in any working environment. Within a healthcare setting, it has been proven to improve health outcomes IPE is based on four key competencies: Teams/teamwork, roles/responsibilities, values/ethics, and communication.

I’m not a public health student, can I participate in the Puerto Rico Fellowship?

Definitely. The PR Fellowship is open to all CU graduate students.
