Graduate Student Research Seminar

The graduate student research seminar (GSRS) aims to create an open space for graduate students in the Biostatistics Department to gain exposure to experiences and research projects that their peers are participating in. We offer graduate students an opportunity to practice presenting their research to fellow students so that they may gain presentation experience, receive feedback, and disseminate research being conducted in the Department. Historically, students have used this space to practice for events such as upcoming conferences, oral exams, dissertation defenses, and job talks.

Each year we hold special sessions which include faculty speed talks to showcase projects that have potential for student engagement, and doctoral student speed talks on recently completed summer internship experiences.

GSRS is being held virtually this year and will consist of six sessions per semester. Traditionally, GSRS has been limited to doctoral candidates but was extended to master’s students last year with great success. Due to the flexibility of virtual meetings, we will continue to include master’s students. We are excited to continue sharing this experience and help expose master’s students to research conducted at the doctoral level. Additionally, we hope to give master’s students the opportunity to practice presenting. We plan to host practicum practice presentations toward the end of the year.
