Columbia Mailman Women Faculty Named Among Top Scientists in the World

Research.com released its 2023 ranking of the Top 1000 Female Scientists in the World, which includes several Columbia Mailman School female faculty. The list is comprised of leading female scientists from all key areas of science and is based on a detailed analysis of 166,880 profiles.  

The list features epidemiologists Dean Linda P. Fried, MD, MPH, a physician expert in geriatric medicine and an internationally renowned population scientist, who also serves as director of the Butler Columbia Aging Center; Deborah Hasin, PhD, whose research focuses on drug and alcohol disorders and psychiatric comorbidity; and Elaine L. Larson, PhD, RN, an expert in infection prevention and control.

In Environmental Health Sciences, the world ranking cites Regina M. Santella, PhD, professor and interim chair of Environmental Health Sciences, whose research uses biomarkers to detect human exposure to environmental and occupational carcinogens; Frederica P. Perera, DrPH, PhD, translational research director and founder of the Columbia Center for Children’s Environmental Health, and a pioneer in utilizing biomarkers to understand links between environmental exposures and disease; and Melanie Wall, PhD, Biostatistics, who has made major contributions to the field of longitudinal data analysis, modeling complex multilevel data on a wide array of public health and psychiatric research questions.
