Rwanda Emergency Care Systems

sidHARTe developed an Emergency Services Resource Assessment Tool (ESRAT), aimed at providing a comprehensive analysis of the availability of, and capacity to, provide emergency care at each of Rwanda’s district hospitals. All 42 district hospitals in Rwanda have been surveyed using the ESRAT, and publication of these data are underway. Results from this needs assessment will inform the Ministry of strengths and gaps in the district hospital system for responding to emergency care needs. Assessment data can also help inform system-level accreditation indicators to help encourage emergency unit development, and can serve as a benchmark for observing improvements in the emergency care system at the district level. The national data will also inform the development of the Norms and Procedures for Rwandan emergency unit.
