Biography

Dr. Amon is currently the Vice President for Neglected Tropical Diseases at Helen Keller International, overseeing the organization's portfolio of work on parasitic and bacterial diseases in 20 countries in Africa and Asia. Prior to joining HKI he served as Director of the Health and Human Rights Division at Human Rights Watch from 2005 - 2016, and initiated and supervised work on disability rights and human rights and climate change. He has also worked as an epidemiologist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a monitoring and evaluation officer with Family Health International (now FHI360), and a consultant to a wide range of NGOs and government and donor agencies. He has lectured and held appointments at a number of universities, including Columbia, Princeton, Johns Hopkins, USUHS, and SciencesPo (Paris).
