Anne Paxton, DrPH

Overview
Anne Paxton holds Masters degrees in Public Health and International Affairs, and a doctorate in Epidemiology, from Columbia University. Dr. Paxton began her career working in the area of child undernutrition and vitamin A deficiency, establishing nutrition programs in low-income African countries for the non-governmental organization, Helen Keller International. She continued her applied global health work addressing the challenge of maternal mortality with Columbia University's Averting Maternal Death and Disability Program (AMDD). Dr. Paxton provided technical oversight and management of monitoring and evaluation research related to AMDD's emergency obstetric service delivery projects in over 30 countries, and supported baseline national needs assessments throughout Africa, Asia and Latin America. More recently, Dr. Paxton has brought her expertise in global health and in food and nutrition to research of dietary changes of immigrants to the United States. She also has a strong interest in dietary changes in middle- and low-income countries and the associated rapid increase in chronic diseases. She holds faculty appointments in Epidemiology and Population and Family Health, and is Director of the Global Health Certificate at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.
