Epidemiologist Receives Provost Grant to Study Structural Racism

Elena Ladas, PhD, Sid and Helaine Lerner Associate Professor for Global Integrative Medicine in Epidemiology, Pediatrics, and in the Institute of Human Nutrition, received a Provost's Faculty Seed Grant under the “Addressing Racism: A Call to Action for Higher Education” Initiative. The funding from the Office of the Provost is designated for projects that engage with issues of structural racism. Ladas’ project is titled “Moving Towards Anti-Racist Systems and Policies to Reduce Childhood Obesity.”

A clinical nutritional scientist, Ladas specializes in supportive care in pediatric oncology. Her clinical and research expertise lies in the application of novel therapies to enhance supportive care interventions in pediatric oncology. She serves as chair of the Nutrition Committee of Children's Oncology Group, an National Cancer Institute-funded cooperative clinical trials group.
