Your Practicum Experience

The practicum, or field placement, is a required component and a highlight of the MPH experience. You will work alongside public health professionals, experience the day-to-day realities of the field, and apply the skills learned in class to a particular public health challenge.

The Office of Field Practice as well as departments and faculty within the Mailman School have well-established relationships with government agencies, non-profit organizations and healthcare institutions in New York City and around the globe. A wide array of opportunities addressing many areas of public health research and practice will be available to you.

Students in the Global Health certificate are required to complete a six-month practicum in an international location. Accelerated MPH students can select a client-based practicum in which a few students work together for a single organization to tackle a particular issue. Accelerated MPH students have the option to of create a practicum experience within the context of their current work environment.

For more information, see the practicum requirements of each department.
