Janna L. Metzler, MPH ‘11, a DrPH student and Senior Program Officer for the Heilbrunn Department of Population and Family Health, is working on a joint project with World Vision International and Columbia University. The project is evaluating the impact of Child Friendly Spaces—safe places where children can learn and play during conflicts and emergencies—on children’s health and on protection and education systems for children affected by humanitarian crisis. The project is being conducted in collaboration with UNICEF, Mercy Corps, Save the Children, and Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh.
Krina Patel, MPH ‘16, recently completed her practicum in Ghana, where she served as one of USAID’s five Donald M. Payne International Development Graduate Fellows. Interning with USAID Ghana’s Health Office, Krina assisted with a variety of public health initiatives including PEPFAR, PMI, MCH, family planning, WASH, nutrition, and HSS programming. She also played a lead role in a gender assessment for a large, cross-cutting Feed the Future project, traveling to Northern Ghana to help launch the study.
