Traveler's Health

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) maintains a CDC Travelers' Health website that contains information on routine vaccinations and preventive measures for persons anticipating travel. Once you have identified your destination, go to the site to learn more about recommendations for specific countries including:

  • recommended vaccinations;
  • precautions for safe water and food;
  • notices about changes in vaccine requirements;
  • drug availability notices, newly available drugs for treatment of traveler-acquired diarrhea and other conditions;
  • disease outbreak and emerging infection information;
  • post-travel conditions and instructions

Descriptions of specific diseases, some with maps denoting areas with frequent outbreaks, can also be found at on the CDC site.

Mailman School students can access pre- and post-travel heath services through Columbia University’s Student Health Service.
