The Mailman School is home to resources of extraordinary breadth and depth in the field of HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment with faculty and research centers that influence and impact scientific discovery, prevention, care and treatment initiatives worldwide.
Beginning in November, the International Center for AIDS Care and Treatment Programs (ICAP) assumed a lead role for the School in commemorating World AIDS Day - observed annually on December 1st - with a slate of programming that included an academic symposium entitled “HIV Scale-Up and Global Health systems,” a reception celebrating the November supplement of the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (JAIDS, which features the work of several Mailman School faculty members), and a stage production of “Two Men Talking.”
Mailman School faculty members were available to share their perspectives on the epidemic's future.
A number of faculty members were also available to discuss various aspects of the epidemic with media outlets covering World AIDS Day.

Organized by the International Center for AIDS Care and Treatment Programs (ICAP) at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, the symposium included panels comprised of leading figures in the public health arena. The event, which drew an audience of more than one thousand, built upon issues raised in the November 2009 supplement of the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes (JAIDS), which was organized by ICAP, and includes experiences and perspectives from colleagues at ICAP and around the world.
Two Men Talking

Tuesday, December 1
Miller Theatre, Free Admission
2960 Broadway (at 116th Street)

This theatrical production is set in Johannesburg, where a teacher asks two rival schoolboys to tell each other a story. Decades later, they meet by chance in New York and begin a lifelong friendship.
Part storytelling and part conversation, "Two Men Talking" is an unscripted performance that shares their real stories of harassment, homophobia, racism, and HIV/AIDS. Audience members are invited to share as well, combining "elements of theatre, therapy, and real life."
