The Dean's New York City Challenge
Elicits Innovative Proposals from Mailman School Faculty

GW Bridge at NightOn September 1st of this year, Dean Linda P. Fried issued a challenge intended to generate creative thinking about ways in which the School could partner with the New York City Department of Education in order to improve children’s health.  The Dean’s challenge elicited a number of excellent responses which were reviewed by a committee established to select the top three proposals.

The School is proud to announce the following winning proposals:

  • Leslie Davidson and Elizabeth Isakson, for their proposal on Pre-K Social & Emotional Well-being in NYC Schoolchildren
  • Ryan Demmer, Moise Desvarieux, and Philippe Ravaud, for their proposal on Obesity Prevention among Children
  • Mary McCord and Kimberly Noble, for their proposal on Promoting School Readiness – A Pediatric and Public Health Priority

In addition to receiving a small monetary award, the winners will have the opportunity to discuss their initiatives with other colleagues over lunch with the Dean, with a view to promoting child health and developing new collaborations. The challenge also succeeded in engaging faculty from a wide variety of disciplines at the School who offered exciting and innovative ideas about translating research findings into practice in order to improve the health of New York City’s schoolchildren.
