Server Support Guidelines and Requirements

Any group at the School that has its own servers is required to do the following:

Register its servers with CUMC IT Security, noting if the system contains/will contain sensitive data. Security will assess the system, make recommendations as needed to make the system more secure, and certify it "approved" for network access.

- Get Your Server(s) Certified
Identify the "system custodian" and "system administrator" for the group and ensure that they:
- Complete the appropriate training as required by the Mailman School. Course Curricula
- Subscribe to security mailing lists:
  - www.cert.org
  - www.sans.org
  - www.microsoft.com/security/default.mspx (for Microsoft users)
  - CUIT Security e-mail list: Send an e-mail request to: securityfolks-subscribe@lists.columbia.edu
- Follow the University recommendations for secure server support.
