» Administrative Offices » IT » Mailman School Policy: Hard Drive Encryption Keys
The School requires that if you run hard-disk encryption software on your School-owned computer, that you save a back-up copy of your encryption key to your O drive on the network.
This is critically important: Should you forget your encryption key, you will lose all access to the data on your hard drive. It is irreversible. However, storage of a back-up key in your O drive on the network should prevent a lost key--your O drive is accessible via login from any computer and is completely secure, making key retrieval a snap.
Note: Do NOT save your O drive password on your computer for auto login. This defeats the purpose of a secure system.
