Curriculum Renewal Task Force

Envisioning a Renewed Curriculum

In early 2010, Dean Linda Fried announced a new initiative to examine and renew the Mailman School of Public Health (MSPH) curriculum. The project was officially launched shortly thereafter with the first meeting of the Curriculum Renewal Task Force on March 10, 2010.  Representing a broad spectrum of the Mailman School community, the fifteen-member Task Force is comprised of faculty, staff, and students. Since convening in March 2010, the Task Force has focused on determining goals for an innovative and interdisciplinary curriculum that can consolidate our focus on training students who will be public health leaders in years to come.  The Task Force has worked with curriculum renewal subcommittees to create a new Core curriculum that reflects the shared needs and educational goals of all public health professionals.

The changes being made to the curriculum will create an integrated and interdisciplinary curriculum that will also allow opportunities for all students to apply the public health skills they are learning in classes throughout their time at MSPH.  The Task Force, with the direct help of the curriculum renewal subcommittees, is working to build a curriculum that will meet the needs of current and future public health students.  The new curriculum will be launched in the Fall of 2012.

The Dean’s Office is fully committed to the curriculum renewal effort as a core part of Mailman’s mission to train public health leaders for 2020, 2030, and beyond.
