On Friday, December 11, Linda P. Fried, MD, dean of the Mailman School of Public Health, hosted 18 deans of the leading schools of public health and medicine in China. The delegation of deans visited the Mailman School, as well as other U.S. schools of public health, to learn more about public health education, research, and practice in the U.S. The trip was sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Education.
Dr. Fried welcomed the delegation and offered opening remarks. The visiting deans, who toured the School’s facilities, also met with members of the faculty.
Mailman School professors from several of the School’s departments including Environmental Health Sciences, Epidemiology, and Health Policy and Management, as well as the Columbia Center for Children’s Environmental Health and the Center for Infection & Immunity made presentations about their research and ongoing activities, with a particular focus on work being conducted in China and around the region.
Members of the delegation of deans from China spoke about their individual schools, facilities, and laboratories and presented information about their current research and accomplishments.
Over the years, a number of faculty members at the Mailman School of Public Health have had the opportunity to collaborate with Chinese public health experts. The discussions during this visit included suggestions for strengthening these alliances and developing even deeper partnerships in the future.
