“I try to treat every situation as a learning opportunity. In sharing their ideas, framing issues and arguing and debating, I give students the chance to act as they will in the professional world, and give them opportunities to take the lead and ask questions so they’re not passive learners.“

DrPH in Sociomedical Sciences

A program leading to the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree may be pursued in the Department's current areas of research activity and specialization, or in any other area involving study of sociobehavioral aspects of health and public health policy. Training in research methods drawn from public health and social sciences is emphasized.

Graduates of the doctoral programs are prepared for research, teaching or leadership roles in health care and policy agencies.

DrPH students enter the program with an MPH or equivalent degree; required coursework for the DrPH is 30 credits of course work. This includes the two-semester SMS doctoral fundamentals course, core social science courses and advanced quantitative and qualitative research methods courses.
