Mailman School of Public Health Degree Offerings Sherry Glied
“Things happen very quickly in health policy, I am able to enrich my course material with examples of state and federal health policy being debated, studied, and−in some cases−passed at the time I am teaching it. What I present to my students is 100 percent influenced by what's happening in the real world.”

Sherry Glied, PhD
Professor and Chair of Health Policy and Management

Health Policy and Management

Graduates of our Department are prepared to take on leadership roles in today’s complex and rapidly changing health care environment. Our mission is to advance theory and practice that improves the public’s health, prevents disease, and strengthens the health care system and its component organizations.

Students are taught the fundamentals of public health philosophy and practice, as well as the analytical skills and methodological tools necessary for both health policy makers and managers. After graduation our students find jobs in the United States and abroad related to the delivery of health care, preventing health problems and reducing health disparities, researching outcomes and interventions and developing health policies. Some graduates use their public health training as a stepping stone to additional health professions or graduate education.
