Environmental Health Sciences

MPH Degree Track - Environment and Molecular Toxicology

While toxicology is defined as the study of the adverse effects of chemical and physical agents on living organisms, environmental toxicology is a broad field of study encompassing the production, fate, and effects of natural and synthetic pollutants in the environment on human health. The effects of a pollutant on the environment depend on the amount released (the dose) and its chemical and physical properties. Pollutants can be grouped according to their origin and effects. Our students are taught the origins of environmental toxins, how they are dealt with and how they affect our health.
