Over 100 alumni and several faculty members participated in the Mailman School's inaugural Alumni Summit for Public Health Leadership on June 3, 2009 at various locations on campus.

Dean Linda P. Fried, MD, MPH and John W. Rowe, MD, Professor of Health Policy and Management, led a keynote session on “The Role of Public Health in Healthcare Reform.” Following the keynote session, a special update on swine flu was given by Stephen Morse, PhD, Professor of clinical Epidemiology, and Isaac Weisfuse, MD, MPH ’92, Deputy Commissioner, NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

The day’s events, which included tours of the Mailman School, a Career Services open house, and interdisciplinary skill-building sessions, culminated in a reception and dinner at Bard Hall, where the Allan Rosenfield Alumni Award for Excellence was presented to Thomas R. Frieden, MD, MPH ’85, newly appointed Director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and former NYCDOH Commissioner. Accepting the award on behalf of Dr. Frieden was Lorna Thorpe, NYCDOH Deputy Commissioner.
