Service

Over the last quarter century, service activities have been a key component in the growth of the Department of Sociomedical Sciences. In many instances, the Department has served as lead agency in consortium arrangements that deliver services or provide professional training. In these projects, the Department has performed management and coordination functions while subcontracting to other agencies that provide most, if not all, service provision and training functions.

Department faculty are involved in translational research and community-based participatory research projects that promote best public health practices in disadvantaged communities that bear the burden of high rates of preventable morbidity. Faculty members have assumed consulting roles in evaluations of national and international programs and in the development of important public health policies.
