Prospective Students

The Department of Sociomedical Sciences encourages applications from men and women who share in the department’s commitment to multidisciplinary approaches in applying theories and methods of social and behavioral sciences in examining health and health care issues from broad and diverse perspectives.

Our students are one of the strongest assets of our department. There is no typical SMS student. While the Department’s immediate focus is on increasing the racial and ethnic diversity of its students and faculty, we recognize that a truly diverse learning and research environment encompasses individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and identities, including people of diverse nationalities, religious and social class backgrounds, physical abilities, age, sexual orientation, and gender identities.

The faculty, staff and students in the Department of Sociomedical Sciences welcome your interest in our programs. For questions about our master’s and doctoral degree programs, or to arrange an in-person or telephone consultation, please contact Andrea Constancio, Academic Program Coordinator, by email or at 212 342-0287.

Please try to contact us at least two weeks before you plan to visit. Walk-in or impromptu visits are not encouraged and cannot always be accommodated. General visitor information can be found at Mailman School of Public Health Office of Admissions.
