Sample Project Types

Some of the types of projects that can satisfy the practicum requirement for the Urbanism and the Built Environment Track include the following:

  • Design or implement a community needs assessment and/or asset map.
  • Utilize and analyze a Geographic Information System (GIS) to conduct studies linking health data to maps.
  • Identify cultural, behavioral, social, economic, and environmental factors affecting health in cities.
  • Analyze topics such as: the impact of market forces on urban development and the health of urban populations; population movements that contribute to patterns of development and health; the effect of transportation systems and links on population migration and health; or the political and social organization of urban areas and their association with health patterns.
  • Utilize a range of urban and environmental planning methods.
