Interdisciplinary Science

GHI fosters new cross-disciplinary research that brings focus, insight, and innovation to key global health challenges.

Thematic Working Groups

Thematic Working Groups (TWGs) promote new thinking about critical challenges in the global health arena to establish a foundation for innovation, influence and sustainable funding.  Driving development of new interdisciplinary science, these ‘thought and practice communities’ serve to:

  • scope complex challenges;
  • identify relevant disciplinary and cross-disciplinary perspectives in their analyses;
  • formulate applied  field research, in collaboration with partners,  to develop, document and evaluate appropriate interventions;
  • mobilize resources – technical and financial - to support such work; and
  • encourage training and broader curricular opportunities that promote and share new knowledge developed through the work of the groups.

Themes currently addressed by TWGs include:

Health Systems Science: Implementation, Integration, & Scale-Up

Priority Programs

Priority Programs
GHI also supports research development and learning through Priority Programs in specific fields of study. The first of these addresses issues in relation to the field of mental health. The Global Mental Health Program aims to place global mental health squarely in the middle of the global health agenda both at the School and the University, as well as in the broader global health arena.
