A Tribute to Martin Gorosh

This site has been established as a tribute for Martin E. Gorosh, DrPH clinical professor emeritus of Population and Family Health. Martin’s passing, in June 2009 was a great loss for family and friends, as well as the many students, colleagues and people served by the programs he designed and evaluated over the years.  Many of you who studied or served with him are scattered throughout the world, and we want this site to be a place to share in his memory and celebrate his many contributions.

Martin played an integral and active role in the Heilbrunn Department of Population and Family Health since joining the School in 1973. During the spring 2009 term, Dr. Gorosh taught Training Public Health Programs with Bill Bower, assistant clinical professor of Population and Family Health.

Martin had extensive experience in international health and development, population and family planning, and U.S. family and adolescent health and health insurance issues.  He had particular expertise in the areas of policy analysis; program design and strategic planning for international training programs and national, regional, and global service delivery programs.  He also made major contributions in organization, development and capacity building through technical assistance to international and domestic agencies and innovative approaches to developing sustainable programs.  During his tenure, he also directed the master's and doctoral academic program of the School's Division of Population and Family Health.

Along with making these significant contributions to both the School and to the field of public health, Martin shared with all of us who knew him, tremendous energy and imagination, an extraordinary sense of humor, and the warmest of friendships.

Our thoughts are with Martin’s wife, Virginia and the rest of his family.  Condolences can be sent to Virginia Gorosh at 290 Hudson Terrace, Piermont, NY 10968.

One of Martin’s passions was the Piermont Public Library, where he served as a board member for 25 years.  Please visit the Piermont Library’s memorial to Dr. Gorosh and read more about his work with the library.

In addition, a personal memorial site has also been established where for family, friends, students and colleagues can share thoughts and memories of Dr. Gorosh.

Please share the link to this site with others who may not have seen it.
