Public Health professionals work locally and globally to impact the health and lives of diverse populations through direct service, program planning, research, policy initiatives, and advocacy. The Mailman School provides students with once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to engage with innovative programs in the classroom at Columbia, in New York City, and around the world.

Columbia University

Located in New York City at Columbia University’s Medical Center, the Mailman School partners in study with the School of Dental and Oral Surgery, the School of Nursing, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the College of Physicians and Surgeons, programs in Nutrition and Occupational and Physical Therapy, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, and various community organizations to provide students with an interdisciplinary approach that draws upon both the physical and social sciences. Students have the opportunity to pursue dual degrees with ten of the University’s other graduate schools, and may also take elective courses at any of these schools.

Students in the Department draw upon the vast and varied academic resources available throughout Columbia. As a part of a world-renowned university, students have access to state-of-the-art research facilities, library collections, and special lectures and events featuring prominent national and international leaders.

New York City

The Department provides an array of health services to the communities of Washington Heights and Harlem, enabling students to engage directly in community health service delivery. Equally important, students take advantage of opportunities offered by a range of humanitarian, international, and reproductive health organizations with headquarters located in New York. The Columbia University Medical Center Campus also offers an extensive network of healthcare connections throughout the city.
