MPH Program for Students Entering By Fall 2011

Global Health Track

(Note for Prospective Applicants: Beginning in the Fall 2012, the School is moving to a new Certificate program with offerings including: Comparative Effectiveness Outcomes Research; Global Health; and Health Policy Analysis. Visit the Prospective Student/Columbia MPH site for more information.)

The Global Health Track in the Department of Health Policy and Management is designed for students who have worked abroad and whose primary focus is preparing for either management or policy careers in organizations working to improve health in other countries. The educational experience includes perspectives on global health issues in both developing and developed countries. The curriculum also provides students with an understanding of how government policies and organizational practices influence the full range of critical global health problems.

In addition, courses address the management and finance skills needed to work in the complex environment of international health. Students learn basic principles of public health and develop an understanding of how social and economic conditions and political choices affect the health and healthcare of people in the developed and developing world. At the conclusion of the two-year program, students will be able to transition from the academic environment into the global workforce.
