Special event

We mark the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with a daylong conference featuring prominent academics, policy makers, journalists, and health professionals on Thursday, September 8, 2011, at Columbia University's Low Memorial Library Rotunda from 8:30 am-5:00 pm.

What have we learned, and what do we stand to learn about how catastrophic events affect the health of adults and children? What have we done, and what do we need to do to prepare for and to mitigate the consequences of disasters and terrorism?  The meeting looks forward and sets public health and policy goals for the field over the next decade.

The event is presented by The National Center for Disaster Preparedness and the Department of Epidemiology.

Taking part in the conversation
We expect audience members to play an active role in the discussion, which we anticipate will help shape the directions that science, policy, and public health take over the next decade.  Among those who have RSVP’d are local and federal policy and public health officials, faculty members, journalists, and graduate students.

Registration for the conference is now full.  However, you can view a live webcast of the conference from 9-5 pm on September 8 via this link: http://www.ncdp.mailman.columbia.edu/live_feed.htm.
