Like many students at the Mailman School of Public Health, Hafeez Ladha was keen to explore numerous interests and endless opportunities in the field of public health, from epidemiological research to community-based policies and interventions.
He was initially drawn into the epidemiological study of cardiovascular disease during his first year at the Mailman School where access to world-renowned faculty allowed him to work on an oral infections and vascular disease study.
His combined interest in epidemiology and policy then lead him to the office of William Jefferson Clinton at the Clinton Foundation, where he had the privilege of assisting with the former President's Economic Opportunity Initiative and Entrepreneurship Program - helping families and small businesses to thrive in inner cities. He also conducted an assessment of HIV/AIDS prevalence, access to treatment, and access to education in New York City - correlating these with the level of household income.
With regards to the many doors the Mailman School has opened for him, Mr. Ladha has been extremely grateful and enthusiastic. “I was also able to attend and participate in President Clinton's conferences on poverty alleviation, global health and international development with current and former Heads of State, CEOs from the public and private sectors, and various philanthropists, and to work with talented researchers at Mailman.” Mr. Ladha will have the opportunity to present some of his newly inspired ideas at University conferences.
