Sandro Galea, MD, DrPH '03

Sandro Galea, MD, DrPH '03, was recently appointed founding director of the University of Michigan Center for Global Health. Dr. Galea is professor of epidemiology at the School of Public Health and research professor in the Survey Research Center at the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan. The Center for Global Health will build upon a large portfolio of cross-disciplinary work of University of Michigan faculty to create synergy and develop innovative ideas and applications for global health.

Prior to joining the University of Michigan in 2005, Dr. Galea was an assistant professor of clinical epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health. He was also the associate director of the Center for Urban Epidemiology Studies in New York City. His research focuses on health of urban populations and the influence of conflict and trauma on the mental health of populations. Dr. Galea received his MD in 1994 from the University of Toronto, his MPH in epidemiology in 2000 from Harvard University and his DrPH in 2003 from the Mailman School.
