Mission

The mission of the Department of Epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health is to use epidemiology to advance the health of populations.

We do this by:

  • training and developing talented researchers and public health practitioners as future leaders in epidemiology and public health;
  • discovering factors that influence both health and the onset and course of disease; and
  • translating these discoveries into strategies that optimize health outcomes.

Our scope is global, with special emphasis devoted to building capacity in the communities of our New York City home and in the most resource-poor settings, such as sub-Saharan Africa and Bangladesh.
