Education & Training

•  Graduate Programs

The Climate and Health Program coordinates graduate training in climate and health at both the masters and doctoral levels at the Mailman School of Public Health. The academic program builds upon diverse theoretical and methodological frameworks to provide students with the competencies necessary to understand and respond to the complex linkages between climate and human health. To formalize training at the masters level, a new 20 credit MPH concentration in climate and health, open to students throughout the Mailman School, will be launched for applicants to the Fall 2012 entering class. Doctoral training is customized to the needs and interests of individual students in consultation with program faculty.

•  Summer Institute

For the past three years, the Mailman School of Public Health has partnered with the International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI) and the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) to offer the Summer Institute on Climate Information for Public Health. The most recent Summer Institute took place from May 17th - May 28th, 2010, at the International Research Institute of Climate and Society (IRI),  located at the Earth Institute’s Lamont Campus in Palisades, New York. The Institute brought together professionals from around the globe who are involved in public health-care planning, evaluation, surveillance or control of climate sensitive diseases. During the two weeks of intensive training, participants learned about methods for integrating climate knowledge into decision making through expert lectures, special seminars, focused discussions and practical exercises.
