MPH Program

Competencies

The Global Health Track is an interdisciplinary program at the Mailman School of Public Health. The track is intended to meet the needs of students who are interested in both the theory and practice of global health and who are committed to becoming practitioners within their areas of primary health interest.

Graduates of the EHS Global Health Track will be able to:

  • Apply skills and knowledge of environmental health sciences within a global context;
  • Improve the health of populations in developing and transitioning economies using findings of appropriately selected and interpreted research in environmental health sciences;
  • Advance the health of populations through the development of scientifically sound, evidence-based, appropriate environmental policies and programs;
  • Communicate and collaborative effectively with individuals, communities, and institutions utilizing appropriate methods informed by the concepts of diversity and power;
  • Develop public health programs and strategies responsive to the diverse cultural values and traditions of the communities being served;
  • Create and advocate for opportunities that empower individuals and communities to improve their own health.

In addition to gaining the track-specific competencies listed above, graduates will also achieve both Department-wide as well as School-wide MPH competencies.
