Dr. Fagan is a criminolologist, law professor, and world-renowned expert in the causes, consequences, and control of interpersonal violence, particularly youth violence. He is founder and co-director of the Center for Violence Research and Prevention at Columbia University, Professor of Public Health at the Mailman School of Public Health, and Professor of Law at Columbia University School of Law.
Dr. Fagan's work is informed by many theoretical perspectives, including developmental and social psychology, sociology, criminology, public health, and urban geography. His work has also included analyses of the impacts of law and social policy, and he has conducted clinical trials of treatment interventions for violent juvenile offenders. Dr. Fagan is principle investigator on one of the CDC funded CCYVP studies, "Harlem Youth Court - Violence Prevention through Legal Socialization".
