Teaching Excellence

The Department of Biostatistics places a strong emphasis on teaching excellence. The faculty’s dedication to enhancing the classroom experience draws not only high ratings from students, but also recognition from around the University.

In recent years, Biostatistics faculty and teaching staff have been singled out for a number of awards. For the four years since Columbia Medical Center founded the prestigious Glenda Garvey Teaching Academy, Biostatistics faculty Melissa Begg, Roger Vaughan, Robert Todd Ogden, and Bin Cheng have been honored as Garvey Fellows; Melissa Begg received the Mailman School's Teacher of the Year Award, and the University bestowed its Presidential Teaching Award upon Melissa Begg and graduate student Ivy Chen.

Students across the School have also given rave reviews to Biostatistics courses including Introduction to Biostatistics taught by Martina Pavilcova, PhD, assistant professor of Biostatistics.
