Biostatistics

Biostatistics faculty members collaborate with colleagues in disciplines as diverse as law, oceanography, education, cardiology, neurology, psychiatry, reproductive health, and, of course, public health. Focusing on medical and public health research across the University, our collaborators include local, national and international colleagues and projects urban, rural, and global. We consult on study design and analysis, explore new methods, and develop statistical models to address public health questions throughout the life-span from the role of placental structure on birth outcomes to risk factors for depression and cognitive decline in Alzheimer’s disease.

Collaborations on randomized clinical trials and observational studies span the spectrum of public health concerns ranging from developmental to degenerative disorders, infectious to chronic diseases, and the influence of genetics, behavior, health disparities, and interventions on epilepsy, cancer, heart disease and HIV. Technological advances require new methods, study designs, data structures, and analyses which we are uniquely prepared to provide.

NIEHS Center for Environmental Health

Provide consultative expertise in study design, execution, data management and statistical analysis to investigators who are planning or conducting research through the Center. Located in the Statistical Analysis Center (SAC).

Data management and statistical operations for this NINDS-funded, double-blind 70-site randomized controlled trial are located within the SAC.

Conducts innovative studies on reducing transmission of HIV in high risk groups, improving the quality of life for HIV positive persons, and determining the factors that reinforce unprotected sexual behavior in order to design sound interventions.
