Prospective Students

Upon their arrival, Biostatistics students in all tracks learn from and, in many cases, work with some of the most respected biostatisticians in the country. From core courses to electives, practicums to capstone experience, Biostatistics students are immersed in an environment that values teaching excellence and actively initiates and investigates new ideas that impact society’s public health.

Students take rigorous academic courses to prepare themselves for careers in the biostatistics field. Resources for students include a Biostatistics computer lab and the Milton Sobel Library which contains thousands of volumes dedicated to statistics, mathematics and probablity.

Outside of the classroom, students are encouraged to participate in a number of activities hosted by the Department of Biostatistics including:

  • The Seminars Series offers opportunities to hear about new research conducted by Mailman School faculty, fellow students, and outside guests.
  • The Biostatistics Consulting Service, which meets the capstone requirement, provides students with invaluable experience working with diverse clientele on a variety of statistical problems. Students with an interest in teaching may apply to be a course helper for the Department or assist other Mailman School students through the Biostatistics Tutoring Referral Service.

If you are interested in pursuing a career in biostatistics, carefully review the MPH, MS and doctoral tracks to identify the best program matching your background and interests. Depending on the track, financial aid or grants may be available to some applicants.
