A formal, culminating capstone experience is required for graduation. Students in the Statistical Genetics track must attend and participate in each of the following:
This monthly Journal Club exposes students to current papers in genetic analysis. Additionally, each student must present at least one paper at the Journal Club over the course of his/her time in the program. This capstone course may be taken for either 0.5 or 1.0 points per semester.
MS/SG degree candidates are required to register for a total of 2 points during the course of their training.
The monthly Seminar in Genetic Epidemiology brings together researchers from all over the New York Metropolitan area—from both within and outside of Columbia University. This seminar enables students to hear about current research and to meet genetics researchers in the New York area.
The workshops in research communication skills – both writing and speaking skills – take place once each year.
