James T. Harden, MPH '83, recently joined Columbia University's Board of Trustees. For the past 14 years, Mr. Harden has also served as Chairman of the Mailman School's Board of Overseers and has been very actively involved with the School's growth and development.
Mr. Harden is President of Catholic Health Services of Long Island (CHS), the second largest private employer in that region. Before joining CHS in 2004, he held senior executive positions for 22 years at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
In addition to his other roles at Columbia, Mr. Harden is Chairman of the Columbia Alumni Association - the umbrella organization that connects University alumni worldwide. Mr. Harden is past president of the Columbia Business School Alumni of New York and served on both the University's Alumni Trustee Nominating Committee and Columbia's Trustee Advisory Committee for Socially Responsible Investing. He has been awarded Columbia's Alumni Medal, as well as the Dean's Award for Distinguished Service in Public Health.
At the Mailman School, Mr. Harden established the Public Health Scholars Fund, an endowment to provide graduate and doctoral students with tuition support.
Mr. Harden became a trustee of Columbia University in 2009. He also serves on the board of the Health Care Association of New York State, and he is Vice Chairman of the Greater New York Hospital Association.
He resides in New York City with his wife and two sons.
