Hurricane Irene

Storm Update: August 28, 2011

As weather conditions outside begin to improve following Hurricane Irene, we encourage students, staff and faculty to continue to use caution and monitor information sources. Both the Morningside campus and the Columbia University Medical Center are in good shape with only minor leaks and damage in a few buildings.

The University will be open on Monday. However, due to concerns about weather conditions, the Mailman School New Student Orientation will NOT begin on Monday August 29th. Instead Orientation will begin on Tuesday August 30th at 9am. Click here for more information about New Student Orientation.

With public transportation and airports not operating at full capacity, we are aware that some students may not be able to reach their destinations and attend classes or clinical responsibilities for the next day or two. Students should contact the course director if they are unable to get to their destination. Students unable to attend class for Foundations will be able to access lectures as podcasts from the Echo360 system.

Please remember to check the following for updates from the University:

  • CUMC information will be posted at cumc.columbia.edu and on the recorded advisory hot line at (212) 305-7300.
  • Columbia University information will be posted at columbia.edu.
